I am very glad that I had the opportunity to try the autism simulator ‘on my own skin’.

I was exposed to the theory of autism during college, but I could never fully empathize with what it was really like to hear sounds and see the world through their eyes. Thanks to the simulator, I had the opportunity to get closer to their perception of reality, at least for a while. It was really an experience, although I had respect for all of it “.

Team Autism CIC have been using Autismity, the Autism Simulator for over a year. We are based in Cumbria, UK and have been searching for this type of product for many years.

We use it alongside our “Autism – It’s Part of Them” Course for family, friends and support workers of Autistics to let them experience the daily sensory issues faced by Autistics. Many feel overwhelmed and take the VR Headset off before the end. We say to them “ You can take the headset off, but an Autistic person lives with this all the time.” It is a valuable tool.
